ABOUT VIRKPRINSESSAN
Virkprinsessan is a Swedish fashion label founded by designer and maker Tomasine Mörling.
My aunt taught me to crochet at a young age. In 2022, I returned to it, and by 2024 I had taught myself to knit. Today, I combine both techniques as an outlet for my love of slow fashion, colour, art, and craftsmanship.
I’m inspired by the colours and combinations I find in nature, and by walks through my favourite museums in Stockholm, including Moderna Museet and The National Gallery. My process blends photographs, hand-written notes, what I see people wearing, the whimsical world of Elsa Beskow, gaps in my wardrobe I wish to fill and magazine clippings. Each of these elements finds its way into distinctive designs.
I work exclusively with natural fibers, sourcing most of my yarn second-hand or from small farms across Scandinavia. Sustainability, timeless style, and storytelling are at the heart of my work, and every piece is made entirely by my hands. I recognise the fashion industry’s environmental impact and believe I have a responsibility to do things differently. As a small independent brand, sustainability shapes every part of my work, from the materials I choose to the way each piece is made. Ethical choices are at the heart of everything I do..
